WHOA! We are super excited that Rob Haggart from A Photo Editor took some interest in our Windswept photo promo!

Stacey’s Windswept Promo was sent out nearly one month ago but it looks like it finally made it to a few people we were waiting to hear from. Rob posted these images of Stacey’s  promo on Instagram.  What an awesome thing to see, since after all, promos are a lot of time and work! We love it!

windswept | the book + behind the scenes

Even when I was a young child, I would come up with wild and crazy creative ideas.  When I said, “I have an idea”, my father often shook his head and said “uh oh . . . ”  But when I explained to him my ideas for windswept and that I needed to scout around Cape Breton, he immediately volunteered to come along with me.  Our agreement was that I could say to stop anywhere and we might explore every road, nook and cranny.  So off we went, Simon my vizsla, Dad and I, to rummage around the beauty of Cape Breton.  It tuned out to be a very long but wonderful day.  We drove down forgotten roads, hiked trails to the sea and discovered so many new places.  It turned out to be a very special Father/Daughter day and one I will treasure always.

And then the windswept team arrived,  from Nova Scotia, Ontario, and North Carolina.  We welcomed everyone with a Nova Scotia lobster dinner in my parent’s yard complete with coleslaw and potato salad.  My Mum was especially thrilled to have Fred visiting since she is a big fan.  After dinner we tumbled into my parent’s house with all of our stuff : wardrobe, props, equipment, makeup & hair implements.  It was an explosion of pretty things and activity as we took over the whole house to prepare for our shoot.  My Mum and Dad are very patient and gracious to let me follow through on yet another crazy idea.

After a good night’s sleep our windswept adventure began : 4 days, hundreds of kilometres, early mornings and late evenings, curious locals and lots of laughs. I want to sincerely thank the whole team for all of their hard work, patience and enthusiasm for this project.

new news | buick magazine

As we all know, Stacey is usually on the move and always behind a camera. But for this special project, the roles were reversed just a bit!

Since Stacey is an avid traveler and blogger, “B Magazine” by Buick decided to feature her as a blogger to highlight the Raleigh/Durham area. Downtown Raleigh streets were shut down and 2 photographers were set out to photograph Stacey along with a brand new Buick Encore! 

The beautiful Bmag will be sent out to customers nationwide the 1st week of June!

cdn home & country | national mag gold award

One of the highlights of my life and career was winning a National Magazine Gold Award for this cabin story!  It was a very special project because not only was it was shot in my beloved Nova Scotia but my whole family was a part of it as well.  My brother David built this cabin when he was a teenager to have a place to hang out with friends.  But, in recent years, it had fallen into decline and one day while walking by, the idea hit me to do a renovation.  David was kind enough to allow us to refurbish it to make a painting retreat for my mother.  I pitched the idea to Canadian Home & Country magazine and they accepted.

I am an extremely sentimental person & each piece placed in this cabin has a memory attached.  The door is from my grandmother’s farmhouse and it is painted my favorite color – turquoise.  Some dishes are from dear family and friends & the pretty little stove is from my cousin Janine’s old farmhouse.  The peonies are from the farmer’s market and the lupins came from my parent’s property. My Dad & I built the little stone path from the shale found on his property and my mom helped me to plant the flower boxes.  It really was a labour of love for my whole family . . .

BEFORE:

Even before this “before” photo, my brother David and my parents had to first rip out all the yucky paneling and insulation to strip the cabin down to the bare bones.  Many mice and squirrels had been enjoying the cabin but we needed to clean it up to start the transformation!

My Dad and I put in another window at the back to let more light in and then we had the whole cabin sprayed with paint – it was a whole new place with light and a blank canvas to create on. . .

Wishing Jennifer Mehditash of Mehditash Design and Dec-a-Porter a big congratulations on her feature in Homes & Interiors : Scotland!  We had the pleasure of shooting this beautiful Soho interior with help from amazing stylist Raina Kattleson.  Jennifer is delightful and talented so she made our job very easy.  Her strong background in art, life abroad in Portugal and a fabulous sense of style are all reflected in this gorgeous interior.  I’ve included a few details that didn’t make the article – hope you enjoy!

amanda nisbet's new book | dazzling design

Being included in our first coffee table book is so flattering and amazing, especially when it is the book of the very talented (& fellow Canuck) Amanda Nisbet!  Dazzling Design is her first book and it has tons of high end and beautiful spaces that are both aspirational and inspirational!  We originally shot this story for Style at Home in the Hamptons with Margot Austin (now Senior Design Editor for Canadian House & Home).  It was a fun story to shoot and lovely to meet Amanda and her assistant.  And who could complain about being in the Hamptons for a few days!

instyle magazine: amanda nisbet

It is always exciting to get published & we were thrilled to have my portrait of Amanda Nisbet included in InStyle’s July issue. Yes, it is a small photo but perhaps the start of something new?  You may remember the pretty Style at Home story this portrait was originally done for. . .

And then a couple of weeks ago the portrait I did of the beautiful Laura Vinroot Poole of Capitol in Charlotte, appeared the fashion section of the Wall Street Journal:  “The Custormer is Always Right”.

bigs & littles project opening

Well, I thought it would be okay to bend the turquoise rule a little with teal . . . We are excited to have the {bigs & littles project} on display at Greensboro’s beautiful Central Library for the month of April.  The official opening is this Friday from 6-8pm.  Come join us in celebrating Big Brother Big Sisters and the amazing relationships of the mentors and children that participate in this life changing program.

My wonderful assistant Maria Arce took the photos of Brittany, Simon & I below.  It is so special when I can step out from behind the camera and be a subject!

nuts in the kitchen

A couple of years ago I had the privilege of photographing at chef Susan Hermann Loomis’ amazing cooking school in Normandy.  I learned about so many things but what stuck with me the most was the exquisite flavour of fleur de sel and that most of all that seasonal fresh ingredients are best.  Susan just published a delicious new book “Nuts in the Kitchen” and we were thrilled that she used one of my images for her author photo.
